The following is a summary of the third AGE Meeting of 2016. Before we get into that, I am not entirely sure when the next meeting will be but I will send an email out when that is decided.
First, thank you to Edward, Arpan, and Melanie who were responsible for the Mentor Mixer, the AGE Movie Night, and the John Watkins Lecture respectively. All three were a success and your work is greatly appreciated.
Second, AGE has some upcoming projects that everyone should know about.
1.There will be another movie night during the last week of November. The movie to be screened is Soul Kitchen and an email will be sent out informing all of the specific date, time, and place of the screening. Contact Arpan with any questions/suggestions.
2.Michael is working to gather information about prospective graduate students and also trying to promote the graduate program in economics in general. He has asked that we all send him information about past professors/advisors* who might be interested in learning more about the graduate program in economics here at CSU and how the program might help their undergraduates reach their goals. In particular, Michael would like the following information:
a.Name
b.Title
c.University/College
d.Email
e.Web page (if applicable)
f.How you know the individual.
*It might be wise to contact these people before you distribute their information. We don’t want to bombard past advisors/professors with unsolicited information, creating a less than desirable initial interaction.
Again, this information can be sent to Michael.
3.AGE will be working Ram Ride on the evening of December 2nd for the purpose of fund raising. This will take place from 10:00p to 3:00a (5 hours). So far we have seven volunteers:
a.Michael
b.Bryanna
c.Arpan
d.Melanie
e.William
f.Edward
g.Levi
We are looking for a few more people that would like to work and help raise some money for AGE. You can contact William or Edward if you would like to help out.
4.Monday, Nov. 7 at 4:30 p.m. in Ballroom D, Lory Student Center there will be a Non-Tenure Track Faculty Reception. This is a free dinner to recognize non-tenure track faculty (that is you instructors).
5.Also, we have drawn up a logo. Hopefully we have it finalized by next meeting and we can send it out for everyone to see.
6.Regarding the panel discussion on students loans and student debt, we are coming along. Quinton and Levi have drawn up an outline of the discussion and have identified 4 prospective panelists. The panel discussion is tentatively scheduled for the last week of February/first week of March.
The next meeting is on Thursday December 8th 2016 at 3:15pm in Clark C307 (the conference room)
